The female singer told the harsh behind the scenes of the survival show

Luong Kieu said that she and the contestants participating in Mnet's "Girls Planet 999" had to record for 40 hours without a break.

Before Mnet started airing the latest survival show titled Girls Planet 999, producing director Kim Shin Young assured viewers of the show to take special measures to protect their mental and physical health. for candidates.

During the press conference to introduce Girls Planet 999, PD Kim Shin Young emphasized, "The contestants' physical and mental health comes first." According to the producer, the crew applied measures such as allocating as few contestants to each dormitory as possible.

They confirmed that they will hire nutritionists, security teams, provide psychologists and interpreters 24/7 for candidates from Japan and China.

Isolated due to language barrier

However, in a recent live broadcast called Pocket48, contestant Luong Kieu revealed the truth about what went on behind the scenes of Girls Planet 999.

Luong Kieu (born 2003) is a member of Chinese group GNZ48. She went to Korea to participate in Girls Planet 999 with her twin sister. The singer was eliminated in the first round, while her sister was eliminated in the second round.

Luong Kieu said she had a scary experience at Girls Planet 999. The female singer could not understand Korean, but unlike the initial statement in the press conference, Mnet did not provide interpreters for foreign contestants.

Luong Kieu calls the dormitory where she lives "a cell". According to the female singer, the Girls Planet 999 crew asked contestants from Korea, China and Japan to stay together to increase interaction, but did not provide an interpreter. Luong Kieu shares a room with Korean contestants Joung Min and Hayashi Fuko from Japan.

Luong Kieu said she and her sister shared a Chinese-Korean dictionary, but they were in two different rooms. Immediately after moving into the dormitory room, Luong Kieu went to find the staff to ask for help. The female singer asked the crew to provide her with an interpreter or a dictionary.

However, Luong Kieu received an answer from the staff: "No. We want to see how you guys communicate without any help.”

"I feel sad because I can only communicate through body language," said Luong Kieu. The 18-year-old singer described how she felt isolated there because she couldn't communicate with people.

However, the Chinese singer insists that's not the only scary thing that exists at Girls Planet 999. Besides forcing foreign contestants to live in communication isolation due to language barriers, Mnet also forced the trainees to film for many hours continuously.

Continuous recording for 40 hours

Luong Kieu said the recording time for the first round of Girls Planet 999 was Planet Demo, which lasted for 40 consecutive hours. In the first round, 99 contestants were divided into 32 teams to show off their performance skills in turn. In the duet with her sister, Luong Kieu performed the song Hmph! by WJSN - Chocome

Because there were so many teams that needed to perform, not to mention the crew who filmed the reactions of the judges and the contestants while watching the competition, the process took 40 hours. Contestants are not allowed to rest during that time.

"This is the first time in my life that I haven't slept for so many hours in a row," said Luong Kieu.

However, that difficulty is nothing compared to the time when she and the contestants filmed the MV for the show's theme song, O.O.O.

“The filming for the title song lasted 3 days and we only slept for an hour a day. I actually only sleep an hour a day. It's scary," Luong Kieu said.

The information Luong Kieu revealed was shocking because about a quarter of the 99 contestants of Girls Planet 999 were under 18 at the time of recording.

Luong Kieu said a member of the group GNZ48 warned her about the harshness of Korean music competitions. However, the truth is more dire than she imagined.

"I thought it wouldn't be that bad. They would just let us rest. I never imagined it would be so bad," Luong Kieu shared.

Girls Planet 999 is a survival program to select Mnet's new project group. The script of Girls Planet 999 is not too different from Mnet's hit show Produce series. There, 99 contestants from Korea, China and Japan went through the rounds. The outcome of each round is decided by fan votes.

Previously, Mnet was criticized by the public for manipulating votes in seasons of Produce. In March, the Seoul Supreme Court sentenced Ahn Joon Young - the man behind the Produce 101 series - to 2 years in prison for manipulating the voting results in the show.

Ahn Joon Young accepted bribes from management companies to change the results of the show, to bring contestants who did not have enough votes to debut in project groups. That is, many contestants deserve to be deprived of the opportunity to debut because of Ahn Joon Young's manipulative behavior.

In addition, Mnet is also often "stoned" for the editing and staging that is said to be malicious in order to attract attention and increase views. In return, the contestants were turned into victims and received many negative reactions from viewers.
