The iPhone 13's A15 chip is "buffalo" than Apple's own estimates

The latest test shows that Apple's A15 chip (in the iPhone 13 series) is much faster than the company claims.

Apple's new iPhone 13 series features the latest A15 Bionic processor. The company says that the chip is 50% faster than the "competitor". However, technology site AnandTech has conducted a practical test of the chip's performance, efficiency and graphics core improvements.

Compared to the "competitor", the A15 is not 50% faster as claimed by "Apple House", but + 62% faster. Although Apple's larger cores consume more power, they are still much more energy efficient.

Two new CPU microarchitectures included in the A15 for both performance cores and four efficiency cores can be manufactured on the 5nm+ process, which TSMC calls N5P. Plus, a "performance-enhanced version" of the 5nm process delivers higher peak frequencies.

On top of that, AnandTech emphasized, the A15 system cache has been increased to 32MB, twice the system cache compared to the A14. This doubling, the report said, "reduces competition" and is "a key driver of the chip's performance boost, possibly keeping memory access on the same silicon rather than switching to slower DRAM." and less effective".

Apple also offered a 50% increase in the level 2 cache of the A15 performance cores, going from 8MB to 12MB, which AnandTech rated as "terrible". Because they have the same L2 size as the M1 chip and are twice as large as other chips, such as the Snapdragon 888 (used on the Galaxy S21).

These enhanced caches help the A15 achieve an "impressive" boost from last year's A14 microarchitecture. Specifically, Apple has managed to reduce power consumption while increasing performance, which means a 17% improvement in energy efficiency at peak performance compared to the A14.

As for the new A15 GPUs, AnandTech also rates them as "incredible" power, showing improvements far beyond Apple's advertisements. Apple's overall cooling system is somewhat limited, but the ‌iPhone 13‌ models are still "much faster and offer a better gaming experience than competing phones".

In short, AnandTech says, the A15's improvements are "significant" and the performance upgrades are "key" to longer battery life on the ‌iPhone 13‌ series.
