Qualcomm is expected to announce its flagship chip Snapdragon 898 later this month. Reports suggest that Xiaomi's next high-end phone, ie Xiaomi 12 will come with Snapdragon 898 chip when it officially launches in December. The lineup may also include other models like Xiaomi 12 Pro and 12 Ultra, with the most advanced member Xiaomi 12 Ultra being noted to come with a camera built in collaboration with Leica.
Since 2019, Huawei has been launching its smartphones with cameras designed by Leica. The partnership between Huawei and Leica ended this year with the arrival of the Huawei P50 series. Since then, Leica has been allowed to search for a new manufacturer that can put its camera brand on their smartphones, with bright names including Honor, Xiaomi or Sharp.
Now, a leaked source of Digital Chat Station on Weibo suggests that Leica and Xiaomi may have reached an agreement for the upcoming Xiaomi 12 series. Leica's choice of Xiaomi is a wise move for the company when it wants to find a capable partner to replace Huawei. However, only Xiaomi 12 Ultra members are favored to apply leading lens technology combined with Leica's optimization algorithms.
Currently not much is known about the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, only that it is expected to launch in early 2022. Previous sources claimed that the device will have three 50MP cameras on the back, with one of them being 1/1.5-inch periscope zoom camera that supports 5x optical zoom.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is also expected to come with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. However, the product will not have a design that is too different from the Xiaomi 11 Ultra.
