Apple is said to have begun development of the next generation of iPhone, expected to be called iPhone 14. If the rumors are correct, the Cupertino tech guy will launch four new flagship iPhone models in September 2022.
The main iPhone models launching next year are expected to be iPhone 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. There is no mini model as the iPhone 13 mini is said to be the last mini iPhone.
A new report from The Elec, citing information from the display supply chain, says that Apple has not yet decided what type of screen it wants to use on the iPhone 14 Max model. Apple is said to be deciding between a 60 Hz LTPS and a 120 Hz LTPO screen.
If the Cupertino tech guy uses a 120 Hz LTPO screen, then it will have to buy panels from Samsung - a company that has almost a monopoly on LTPO OLED technology and is also providing panels for iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone models. 13 Pro Max.
However, Apple is looking to diversify its supply chain and reduce its reliance on Samsung, which is why the company is increasing the volume of panels ordered from manufacturers like LG and BOE. In this case, the iPhone 14 Max can use a 60 Hz LTPS panel.
Going back to the iPhone 14 lineup, the standard iPhone 14 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch display with a 60 Hz refresh rate while the Max model will feature a 6.7-inch display. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are said to have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens, respectively, with 120 Hz refresh rates.
