Apple's high-end smartphone market share is more than Samsung, Huawei, OPPO, and Xiaomi combined

In the high-end market, Apple is still the king and this position is very difficult to change.

Apple has just launched the iPhone 13 series, but even before that, its old product lines were enough for Apple to take the top position in the high-end smartphone market with an even higher number than last year.

According to a new report from Counterpoint, Apple's share of the global premium smartphone market has grown from 48% in Q2 2020 to 57% in Q2 2021, largely due to the success of the iPhone 12 series. . Counterpoint defines the total premium market segment as devices with a retail price above $400, including the share of Apple devices. Apple's sales in the ultra-premium segment ($800 and up) are of course also extremely impressive.

Across the entire premium smartphone market, prices above $800 accounted for 36% of premium smartphone sales in Q1 2021 - an 182% increase year-over-year. Apple accounted for nearly three-quarters of this group's sales in the second quarter of 2021, up from 54 percent a year earlier. This number is thanks to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Meanwhile, Android firms have struggled to catch up with Apple in the premium segment.

Samsung held 22% of the premium market in Q2 2020, but this share dropped to 17% in Q2 2021. Counterpoint says the drop was due to supply constraints.

Despite its continued troubles in Western markets, Huawei remains the third-largest global smartphone vendor in the premium category. However, the brand saw a sharp drop in market share, falling to 6% in Q2 2021 from 17% in Q2 2020. Notably, this figure was largely due to the strength of the market. market in China, where Huawei is still ranked as the second largest smartphone maker in the high-end segment.

There are only two Android companies that have seen a noticeable increase in this period, that is OPPO and Xiaomi. Xiaomi increased its premium smartphone market share from 4% to 6% between Q2 2020 and Q2 2021. OPPO from 2% to 5% during the same period.

In the second half of 2021, Counterpoint predicts that Samsung will regain some market share with its flagships Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Xiaomi, currently ranked as the world's largest smartphone maker as of June 2021 , continues to market more premium products and can change market share.
